If you have to share a video with Windows users, be aware that the free Flip4Mac plugin for Mac will not convert more than ~22 seconds of video. From what I can tell, the only way to convert video to Windows Media Video (WMV) on Mac is to buy the paid Flip4Mac plugin or use the (discontinued) VisualHub.
If you know of a way to convert to a filetype that naturally supported by Windows XP for free, please post the details in the comments.
